What is Animal Observer?
Animal Observer is a free iPad application that allows users to create custom ethograms and quickly collect standardized behavioral data. The app is designed and hosted by Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund International. Information on the project can be found at this link:

How Does the Hobson Lab Use It?
After testing and modifying multiple data collection apps, the Hobson Lab has developed robust, flexible, and affordable data collection methods that use the Animal Observer app to better capture and analyze social data. Switching to technological data collection methods can be useful because it can increase ease and speed of data collection, help observers input data in a standardized format, and facilitate quick and easy data analysis and sharing.
